If you follow our 'blog you'll know that we have a bird feeder outside our front window that gets used a lot by all kinds of songbirds. Just the other day a squirrel has figured out how to get onto it.
He swings down from the gutter onto the roof of the feeder. Then in a death-defying move, he lowers his front feet onto the feeder tray, cuts his back feet loose, and pulls himself up with his front legs. It's pretty cool to watch, but damn annoying that now I have to put some sort of wire mesh up to keep him off.

Doug I hope that you can understand how funny this but it relates to your squirrel story.
Back in Ontario we had a thousand squirrels and we also had an apple tree orchard close to my house. Well one time this squirrel ran up the fence because it was being chased by my dog. Well it tried to jump from the fence to the tree and as a result of it carrying the apple it jumped and nose dived it right into the ground. This all unfolded right before our eyes at the dinner table.
The squirrel got up and the apple was stuck to its head so it started running all over the backyard.
I nearly spit my food out and my parents had to leave the roomt o calm down.
Man that is a memory that I will never forget.

Al and Grace came to the conclusion,long ago, that it was much easier to convert their many bird feeders into squirrel feeders and give the conquering horde cute names.
