Rememberance Day and Hockey

Once again I was the lucky recipient of a ticket to go see the Vancouver Canucks battle the Calgary Flames. Kory Fawcett has a seasons ticket and his buddies that usually go with him were out of town so I scored! It was a really good game that unfortunately ended with the Canucks blowing a 2 goal lead to lose 3-2.

It hardly mattered though. Kiprussov was outstanding in goal as Vancouver pounded him with shots. Marcus Naslund had an amazing game as did Jerome Iginla. It was a great display of fast and flowy hockey.

The highlight, for me, came before the game started, though. For the ceremonial puck drop, they brought out 4 Canadian Forces vets. The first guy to come out was a WWII vet. As he marched out the red carpet the applause got louder and louder so that when he reached center ice, the entire stadium was on their feet and cheering so loudly that there was no hope of hearing the loudspeaker.

As the others came out the standing ovation kept up and continued right through the puck drop and until they left the ice. Before anyone sat down the national anthem began and,I swear, all 14,000 people in the house were singing. It was an incredible moment in time. One I'll not soon forget.
