Summer Solstice the Way It Should Be

We don't get out much these days... but we did go kayaking last night on the longest summer night of the year.

Paul from next door brought his kayak from Vancouver and we all paddled out to Flora Islet, where the high tide brought us face to face with the young elephant seal who has been making the islet her home. These seals are not native to this area, but there have been a few sightings on the west coast of Vancouver Island. And we have our very own right here in the Salish Sea. She (?) is all by herself and I hope she manages the solitude. Will the other seals accept this lonely one?
We'll see.

It was a perfect evening for a paddle; quiet , calm and just enough swell in the water to make it interesting. We glided into a bay warm enough to swim in, but didn't. I went to bed with sandy feet and remembered why we moved here in the first place!

I so envy your beautiful and serene surroundings. You must take me kayaking whenever we get to your peaceful home.
