Mike Vandeman removed my photo from his website! His provider obviously had a word with him and after removing the pic, he sent me this email...
Mike Vandeman
To: Doug Chinnery
[Quoted text hidden]
1. Where is the original photo?
2. Can I use the photo if I change the context (e.g. the text that accompanies it)?
---------------------------------
I replied to him saying thanks for removing the photo. I also told him that the purpose of my photo was so far out of context on his site that it was unlikely that any text changes would fix the situation.
Then I suggested that if he wanted more info on "Moral Rights" or "Fair Use/Dealing" that he should consult with a lawyer. I recommended Lee Lau. Lee is a lawyer friend of mine who wrote a great letter for me and sent it to Vandeman's ISP. That was what actually turned things around. Nothing like a letter on a law firm's letterhead to get someone's attention.
Thanks so much to Lee for suggesting how to handle it and for some much appreciated letter writing. Also thanks to my cousin in law Ted Brunt for all the great info on copyright law.
It was an excellent birthday gift, and then we went for wicked sushi.

Congrats, Doug. That's a great end to the story.
That is great news! Glad that someone smartened that guy up!
This is a small piece of a greater problem but at least the little guy won!
Yeah Doug... I called you a "little guy!"
What you going to do about it?
Congrats man and Happy Birthday!
