More Bird Shots

I happen to think that Northern Flickers are just about the coolest bird around these parts. Flickers are actually all over North America and only vary slightly from the ones that live in the Cacti in the Southwest to the grassland variety in the prairies to the ones that eat bugs in the fir trees around here.

With all the snow, which has just recently disappeared, they've been hanging around our fruit trees picking away at the bugs in the rotten fruit or maybe the fruit itself.

These Bushtits love this crazy suet concoction that Rachelle invented. It's got coconut paste, bacon grease, and red currants all mixed together. We've counted upwards of 20 tiny birds all attached to the feeder. They're hanging upside down, sideways, and on top of each other. They're pretty funny to watch, then poof... they've all disappeared.

There's something about a bird hanging on to an icicle that is just too cute for words. The only cuter thing is when they stick out their little tongues to lick up the water drop at the bottom of the ice. We didn't get that photo, but we did get this one of the Starling sideways on the icicle.
