Mid January and the days are noticeably longer. This means more time to work on the house during the week.. and dedicate the weekends to studio construction.Last week Doug Helped Rob mill up five 4x12 beams at his portable mill and they look wonderful. Beautiful big fir beams that will run the span of my studio.
Doug had planned to work on the studio over his Christmas vacation of two weeks, but a meter of snow fell and buried our plans for that month. Now that the snow is gone and the weather is more conducive to making concrete we're getting back on track. Doug dug and formed the footings, cut the rebar and cut the tube forms to the right levels over the last few weekends.
Yesterday we mixed and poured concrete.
Big Pete was by to help out and we managed, with Pete's help, to get all the footings and tube forms poured in one day.
I can't wait to see it all come together. It will be a fairly slow process, with work happening on the weekends only. But happen it will. This is a good strong start and it's all uphill from here.
And there's nothing like a good nap at the end of it all.Once it becomes clear we're fully on track, we'll organize an old fashion studio raising - with grits and baked possum. We have those here.

Holy Cow! It's a new beginning. Congratulations. We'll expect great new projects to be created in this wonderful space. Should Dorothy and I bring any special tools when we come?
