Employment, Shrub Cages, and a Completed Project

When I first got out of school in 1984 I had a hell of a time finding a job. Ever since then, I've never lost a job and never had to spend any more than 2 hours finding one when I needed to. Well, on Saturday I got laid off. I work Monday, then I'm out pounding the beach looking for more employment.

Actually, my mom comes to visit on Tuesday, so I'll probably not go looking too hard until next weekend when she leaves. Come to think of it, my brother and his family arrive the next week so maybe I'll look after THEY leave. Hmmm, by then the cedar fascia boards that I ordered will probably be here and I should probably put them up. By gar, by then Rachelle will be selling pots at the farmer's market and I can spend the summer working on her new studio. Meh... employment is for chumps!

I was going to go riding this afternoon but then the beach looked so gorgeous in the hot sun. Rachelle and I grabbed the log carrier and headed off in search of cool driftwood to keep the deer away from the shrubs. Its always handy to have cool bits of wood around to use for arbors, railings, trim pieces, or whatever.

Almost a year after we put a roof on the main house I finally completed the job. After the panels were on and the skylights were flashed the house became dry inside and any motivation to finish the edge flashing disappeared. Over the last couple of weekends I spent a few hours on the roof cutting, bending and installing the last bits of flashing to complete the roof on the main house. That was when I realized that of the hundreds of projects that make up the construction of the house, I had finally completed one.

Sure, losing your job can put a damper on your weekend, but finishing your roof... that's good times!

Thank goodness we just topped up the freezer with fish, chicken and beef. Now all we have to do to survive is collect seaweed off the beach for our vegetable content...

Cheers to finishing a job! Though with all your free time you'll be crankin' through the jobs!

btw, the comment from jojosho is spam. Don't click on it!

Doug, you didn't lose your job, they lost you, silly! Don't worry family members of Doug & Rachelle this is very common in a community of less than 900 people. And in the famous words of a local pioneer you will always have work on Hornby if you want it, it just comes in several forms. You will get used to it Doug! That or you can go work at the Co-op! Argh!!!
