Rachelle and Italian honey bees

We went down to check out our good buddy Al's bees. Al just recently started keeping bees after taking an involved course. He was then stiffed by a shady bee seller so it's been a long road for him to get his bees and get them working.

The bees need to be checked and fed every week until they get established and figure out where the good food is in the neighborhood. We were too curious to miss out on this weeks maintenance so we popped in to see the set up.

Right in the middle of the bee keeping demonstration my pager went off and I had to go but Rachelle stuck around and helped Al finish up. She even got her hands dirty by moving around a few of the panels that the bees are building on. This photo to the right is her developing a jones for getting a few hives of her own.

Apparently there are 3 schools of bee keeping. Rachelle is demonstrating the middle school in the above photo where she is wrapped up but still willing to handle them. Rob in the lower left photo is not willing to show any skin at all, and Al in the right photo is pretty cool about it all.
