What a beauty, eh? Doug got these shots off this evening of this Pileated Woodpecker in our woods. Here he is at work on a tree, but woodpeckers also like to poke around on the ground for tasty grubby morsels too. This woodpecker is the largest of its kind north of Mexico. He stands at 41cm or about 16" tall. And they make quite a jackhammer racket when they're pecking at a tree.
