This Ain't No Mouse

Every once in a while Doug and I find an errant unlucky mouse holed up somewhere they really shouldn't have been, like buckets, the composting biffy and even in a big ceramic bowl with too much water in the bottom. Even though they're 'just' rodents, we always feel bad for the little critters.

But this morning's find was the saddest so far. Under our house, which has a clearance of about 3', Doug found a tiny deer that had obviously found a dry spot out of the cold. This little guy was born this year and had either been abandoned or lost his mom to a hunter. Too small to make it on his own, he just went to sleep after it all got to be too much. We figure he'd been there for at least a week. We loaded up Bambi onto a piece of plywood and carried him off to the woods beside our house where he's resting peacefully. Sniff.

Awwww.

Nature can be swift and brutal. You're getting a very close look, which ultimately is a great thing.

Too sad. I don't have any problem getting rid of mice!!! I just don't want them in my space ANYMORE.
