This island loves the blues. The Hornby Island Blues Festival is a really well known and respected spring festival. Performers come from all over to play here both during the festival and at other times as well.
The other night we went to see David Gogo play a solo show at "New Horizons". It's a very small venue with couches, comfy chairs, and a bunch of folding chairs to round out the capacity to about 100 people. Gogo played a couple of sets of acoustic blues ranging from Robert Johnson southern style to some gospel laced blues.
The guy is a great guitar player, and a really good singer as well. He spun some hilarious tales in between songs. None of the self-promoting swagger that was up front in some interviews I've heard was evident. It was a thoroughly enjoyable evening. I'd catch him again for sure.
