Cabin Update

Our latest trip to Hornby was pretty successful. Our 3 objectives were to transport a load of windows and lumber, get the toilet vent installed, and finish the back room. All three things were accomplished!

Here's our fancy, self contained composting toilet all hooked up. Rachelle is dumping the compost starter into the works as the last step before we can use it. It's been 2 years elapsed time and over 5 weekends of work, and we finally have a pot to piss in, so to speak.

Its a huge milestone. Until you have a working toilet or outhouse staying on your property is basicly a camping trip. The back room is now enclosed and lockable. The skylight is installed I built a door to match the walls. The siding still needs the batons installed, the soffets need to have mesh installed and the whole thing needs to be insulated.



While I was building the door, Rachelle took off to the beach to see what was going on. The photos that she came back with are amazing. Here are a couple. The crazy moonscape sandstone stuff is all over Hornby. There are countless places along the coast where the sandstone pockets range from small divets to holes large enough to crawl into.

The other shot is one of the many jellyfish that washed ashore. For some reason the south coast of the island has a ton of these strange and beautiful creatures washed up on the shore.
