Sterling Silver

Formerly of "Mr Buttons" fame... upon further inspection our stray, now best little buddy, is actually female. This unflattering photograph of her shows her silver feet and somewhat tarnished coat - hence the moniker.

Sterling showed up last November and you couldn't get within 10' of her. We made sure she had food every night. Every morning her dish was empty. Just a week ago she let us scratch her head. This morning she woke me up with her meow at 6:16 so I got up, made tea, sat in the morning sun and Sterling spent that time sleeping in my lap. Feels good to gain the trust of a little stray.

Here on Hornby there are many, many stray cats. They get left behind. They breed. They kill native species of birds. Apparently there used to be a native squirrel population too, but because of the cats - no longer. That might be a bonus in some parts of the world but here the Garry Oak need the squirrels to bury the acorns.

So there's a great program run by volunteers who capture the cats and take them to the vet to have them spayed or neutered. Their ears are then tattooed and they are returned to wherever they were captured. I'll be calling them to make sure Sterling doesn't' add to the already stressed cat, bird and small critter population here.

now once you get your moat finished, you won't have to worry about the strays, The crocs will take care of them.

That sounds like the story of how you & Doug hooked up, no?

Very funny Ted. Oh - you mean how I found Doug rummaging around my apartment looking for food? Yeah - that's right!

Yeah, '78 sounds about right! Except that one was brought home - this one stalked us!
