As you can see, it was beautifully wrapped with hand decorated paper. The writing says "Happy 11th Baby. Doug and Rachelle forever". I opened it up to find this Bosch 12" sliding miter saw. OMG! What a surprise! Rachelle had ordered it from the building supply shop behind my back and added it to the lumber order.
The old Makita chopsaw that I got from my brother Scott around 10 years ago was really starting to show its age. It continues to work for framing but was recently fired from a worksite for not cutting sof-fit material square enough. The new Bosch will be a joy to work with in framing and also be accurate enough for the finest cabinetry.
I'm still blown away every time I walk through the door and see it sitting there, waiting to cut something.

THAT is one nasty bit of gear. Congrats!
(I always suspected Scott was a bit crooked.)

How is the weather in November?

Strong and precise enough to cut through a block of styrofoam!
The tool really shines when you add it to a stand. I (aaron) was using it by myself to cut long boards with ease. Plus, stoppers let you cut a million boards the same length.
Enjoy, and drooooolllllll.
I was just about to leave a comment about the styrofoam and saw that my husband beat me to it. Hmmm, what does that mean?
Congrats, and have fun with it! And no you don't need a stand. For Pete's sake Aaron, not everyone needs excuses for new toys!!! ~Jill
