Rachelle has 3 kilns. The one that she's been using here was her middle sized one. On the last move we brought up the big workhorse and last night we got it wired into our electrical grid. It took Joe-the-electrician and myself all evening to get it all hooked up.
Rachelle has had problems with this kiln since we had it installed in our place in East Van. It took forever to get to temperature, the elements seemed to burn up prematurely, and in general it sent her a few steps closer to insanity every time she used it. Last night we found the source of the problem. When it was hooked up last, the electrician clipped 3 of the 7 strands of wire that make up the hot cable in order to fit the cable into an undersized wire nut.
My suspicion has always been that it was starving for electricity and that confirmed it. We fixed that situation and on the test firing today it got to temperature in 5 hours instead of the 15 that it was taking for the last 5 years. Rachelle is now pretty stoked to get it loaded up with stuff and start getting some product built for the Circle Craft show/sale in November.

I often find moving solves old wiring problems.
Or in our case, presents new ones.
Does this mean Rachelle takes 3 steps back towards sanity? Matched with the move to the island, I'm thinking she'll be frighteningly near normal soon.
Nothing like solving a 5yr old problem that caused lots of grief and frustration. What the heck took you so long Doug? You couldn't figure it out 5 years ago??? Imagine how much more productive Rachelle could've been in that period of time. How many pieces she could have sold! Then again, most code geeks don't know much about electricity ... :-)

Why, I remember having to rip apart and beef up power supplies to provide enough power to drive another disk and network card in my ole XT.
