The Man's a Machine

The arbutus tree at the edge of our property is bending almost in half in today's winds. The fir trees are swaying, dropping branches and bringing back memories of last year's hurricane force storms. The rain is falling sideways, reminiscent of East coast autumns. Did that stop The Douginator from building? No. It did not.

He built a make-shift shelter for his saw, put a turtle lid Tupperware on top of the compressor and, by God, continued construction. He managed to put up three of the rafters on the West Wing before the torrential rain finally drove him indoors. Did he sit down with a hot chocolate? No. He did not. He worked on blocking the roof rafters in the East Wing from the inside - and then took a break.

Next weekend Bob and Suzanne, our friends and neighbours from Vancouver, will come up for a visit. Bob is well-versed in construction as he has almost entirely rebuilt his own house. It has been great having our friends come up and give us a hand with this house. In fact, it's the only time when Doug finally takes the evening off!
