This week we started a new project at work. We're building 2 small duplexes from the ground up for elder housing. It's a cool community initiative to make sure that people who have built the community over the years have a place to live.
The excavator was already in and leveled the ground. We laid out the foundation, built the forms for the footing, and got it ready to pour the concrete early next week. It's hard work with no shade and really dusty ground. I'm filthy at the end of the day, but pretty stoked to see the practical side of how all that works.
Those Styrofoam blocks in the left of the photo are placed on the footings, filled with concrete, and become the foundation walls. That saves having to build forms for the walls and the styrofoam is also the insulation. Pretty slick.
