Our friends Paul and Lisa removed an old-growth fir floor from a house slated for demolition in Vancouver's Point Grey. The wooden planks have no knots and it is a thing of beauty. The planks were destined for a house to be built on the Sunshine Coast, but plans changed. And we got the floor. P&L loaded up the floor in a two-car trip to Hornby and gave it to us. And now it's got new life in my studio. It is truly a thing a beauty and will be covered with a healthy coating of - we haven't decided what yet - but it will be coated. Clay is unkind to floors, so we will dearly protect this one.
Installing this floor is very labour intensive. Each board needs to be inspected, have any bad bits cut out, and the edges sanded to remove the old sealer. Why a wooden floor in a studio? If you spent 8-10 hours a day in a space that you could plan, wouldn't you make it beautiful too?
