DJ Deputy Doug on the Ones and Twos

 A couple of years ago a dedicated group of volunteers got a community radio station up and running here on Hornby. Doug's been filling in some spots for the regular DJs and doing a great job.

Doug's always been a big music fan and I'm always amazed at his encyclopedic knowledge of musicians, bits of historical info, and his ability to put together a play list at a moment's notice.

Most recently, Doug's been sitting in for Grant, whose show is mainly selected tracks from the Rolling Stone's top 500 list. Doug says he has an "uneasy relationship" with that particular list but was willing to honour Grant's show format all the same - with a twist.

DJ Deputy Doug only plays covers of popular songs. His picks today included Kentucky Woman as interpreted by Deep Purple, Train in Vain, by Dwight Yoakam, You Can't Always Get What You Want, by Rusted Root, and Oops, I did it again, by Richard Thompson.

It's been good seeing Doug get back to two of his favourite things: skiing, listening to and playing music. All work and no play make a very dull life - and that's not why we moved here.

I've listened to every show Doug's done and loved every one. Much of what makes his show so interesting is the commentary about the music choices and the historical notes of interest he compiles. Yep. Deputy Doug rocks my world. And now - he does it over the air waves.
