Floral Giants

Thanks PeJu!
For the first time ever - I have successfully grown sunflowers from seed. These seeds came to me in The Great Hughs Road Clean Out last year and apparently originated from famed Hilary Brown stock at a Heron Rocks plant and seed sale. Not being one to do things by the book, as one should, or even with proper care and attention, I planted 5 seeds in a number of different spots and just hoped for the best.

This group of seeds busted out of the ground soon after I planted them (late) and was the only group to break the surface of the earth. On a property filled with Douglas fir, they are an entirely appropriate flower! The tallest of the bunch stands about 9 or 10' high. Wowie.

Doug has gone on his annual pilgrimage to Squamish to climb cliffs and I am home enjoying time in our fledgling garden, attending to the needs of Sterling Silverfoot, and getting some reading done for my new course this fall.

The last of our late summer days may be behind us. But that's fine. Bring on the fall! Movie nights, soups, stacks of blankets and the start of private access to Helliwell, Big Trib and check out at the Co-op! I love September.

How wonderful to see them in bloom Rachelle! They are obviously happy in your garden. Great shot of those beauties.
