On Saturday night Rachelle and I watched "24 Hour Party People". Its a great rocku/mocku/documentary about Tony Wilson, Factory Records, and the cutting edge Manchester music scene from the late 70's to the early 90's.
Tony Wilson started Factory Records who was home to such ground breaking bands as "Joy Division" who became "New Order" and "Happy Mondays". I remember late nights listening to Brent Bambury on the headphones when he was host of Brave New Waves on CBC. The dark tones of Ian Curtis, singer of Joy Division were a favorite on his show, and I always will associate Joy Division with that time and place.
The movie is a great mix of actual video and actors playing the parts of the people involved. There's lots of talking to the camera, and some really enlightening inside information into that scene. If you're at all a music history fan, or a fan of Joy Division or New Order or Happy Mondays, or interested in the birth or rave, or just like a good rockumentary, then check it out.
